Spring is here and summer will arrive before we know it. Now is the time many people in the states are starting to plan their summer gardens. We have scheduled a special program with journalist and organic garden expert, Joel Thompson to discuss organic gardening and the farm to table movement.
Joel Thompson graduated from Bates College in Maine in 1972 and for the past 40 years has worked as a journalist at the Connecticut Post, formerly known as the Bridgeport Post, along with working at Cherry Grove Farm in Newtown, Connecticut. Upon retiring from the Connecticut Post in 2009, Joel started a new career writing novels, nonfiction and poetry.
In addition, Joel created Garden to Table LLC in 2009. The company markets vegetables grown at Cherry Grove Farm to restaurants run by culinary school trained chefs. He grows a full range of heirloom and hybrid tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, carrots, greens, radishes, summer and winter squash, cucumbers, onions and basil, along with Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli. Other products include blueberries, raspberries, corn and gourds and flowers for cutting and sale, including sunflowers, zinnias, gladiolas and dahlias.
