Mario Grigorov is the son of a concert pianist and trumpet player. He entered the Sophia Conservatorium in Bulgaria, at the age of five studying western classical music. His family relocated to Tehran, Iran where his father performed in the Shah’s Symphony Orchestra. For the next six years, Grigorov had many unique influences in Tehran, with his traditional training in western classical music, while absorbing the rich sounds of the Persian culture.
In 1992 Grigorov traveled to the United States under the mentorship of film composer, Miles Goodman. Grigorov’s compositions would soon find some impressive outlets. While playing the keyboard at a music store in Los Angeles, Grigorov was scouted and signed on the spot to a record deal with Warner Brothers Records. Thisl led to the release of Rhymes with Orange and the highly acclaimed Aria on Café del Mar. Grigorov went on to tour Europe and North America as a concert pianist, while Aria climbed to number four on Billboard’s classical Crossover chart.
Not only did Grigorov’s move to the United States obtain him a record deal as a solo pianist, but it also enabled him to further explore the medium of original film scores and commercial music, he now has done the original scoring for over thirty films and documentaries, along with many successful commercial outlets. Be it Classical, Jazz or any type of World music, Grigorov has a unique ability to transcend these traditions and infuse them in today’s musical influences.
